Ibotta-2Ibotta is an app, available for iOS and Android, that allows you to earn cash back for shopping.  It works like this:

  1. Unlock rebates by completing tasks, usually watching a video or answering a few questions.
  2. Go shopping and buy items you have unlocked.
  3. Verify your purchases by scanning your barcodes and taking a picture of your receipt.
  4. Get paid.

To use Ibotta, you need to purchase your items from one of the approved stores, but just about every major chain is approved, so chances are you will be shopping at an approved store.

As an alternative to scanning barcodes and taking pictures of receipts, some of the stores allow you to connect your loyalty program account to Ibotta, which automates the process.  However, the number of stores that participate is small, so chances are you will need to scan your barcodes and submit the receipts.  That’s no big deal because Ibotta makes the process really easy.

You can also connect with your Facebook friends and increase your cash back by earning as a team.

Your rewards are available as cash or a gift card.

Ibotta does require a little more work and planning than the Walmart Savings Catcher or Shopkick.  However, it is still a worthwhile app and one I use regularly.

  1. Wow. I like your simplicity especially in this post as I feel you are really straight to the point!
I have a question though, for this app what countries and what shops are available to use and what is the rebate rate like?
Also, if i were to redeem through cash, do they give you through your bank account?

    1. The rebates vary quite a bit. One that is commonly available is 25 cents for any receipt, which can be almost nothing if you bought a lot of items. On the other hand, I have seen rebates as high as 10% on some items, so it all depends on what you buy.

Regarding your question about location, I think it is only available in the United States, but I have submitted a question to them to clarify. I think they could really expand their user base if they allowed it to be used worldwide.

Finally, you have the option on how you receive your rebates. You just let them build up, and then, when you decide to take them, you specif how you want them. Current options include: Cash via PayPal or Venmo, or a gift card. They have a number of gift cards available, including Best Buy, Starbucks, Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc.

I will add another comment if I find out that Ibotta is available outside the United States.

  2. Stunning. I like your straightforwardness particularly in this post as I feel you are truly straight to the point!

I have a question however, for this application what nations and what shops are accessible to utilize and how is the refund rate?

Additionally, if i somehow managed to reclaim through money, do they give you through your ledger?

    Much obliged!

    1. Thanks for the comment, Sameer.

Unfortunately, Ibotta is only available in the United States at this time.  Most of the major chain stores, like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy are included.

For payment, you have an account that builds up at Ibotta.  Once it gets to $20, you can transfer the money via PayPal or Venmo, or you can choose to put in on a gift card at the shop of your choice, including Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon or Starbucks.
