I have seen a lot of buzz online about Swagbucks.  Most of the comments I have found are positive, so I decided to try it out myself.  Here is what I found out.

swagbucksscreenshotSwagbucks is a reward program that pays you in reward points for completing various tasks.  As you might expect, the reward points are called swagbucks, and the tasks include taking surveys, watching videos, shopping at various online stores, playing games and searching the web.  Swagbucks are worth a penny each, and you can convert them into gift cards at various retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Target, or you can convert them into cash via PayPal or a VISA gift card.

Surveys are the most common way to earn swagbucks because they pay the most out of all the activities.  They typically pay from 20 to 150 swagbuck per survey and as you would expect, the longer the survey, the more they pay.  Each survey shows an estimate of the amount of time required, so you can decide if it’s worth it.

Overall, I think Swagbucks is a solid way to earn a little extra money.  I am not a big fan of survey sites, but that is mainly because they usually promise way more than they deliver.  Swagbucks doesn’t pay much per survey, but they don’t promise to either.  Earnings are pretty commensurate with the amount of work and effort required.

My main problem with Swagbucks is that in some cases, the time required is not really worth the amount you can earn.  But if you’re doing tasks you were going to do anyway, or if you’re just killing some idle time, you can knock out some of the tasks and earn some extra money.

  1. I have definitely tried swagbucks and see it as inefficient for making a living full time. Like you said, it pays less than minimum wage.

One thing that frustrates me in general with them is getting bounced from surveys like most survey sites do to you. They say I am not eligible.

Because of time consumption, I only use it nowadays to sign up for cash back rewards.

Did you have any different experiences with swagbucks?

    1. I know what you mean about the surveys, Jessie. I have the same experience. Some of them say you are approved, and then you spend about 15 minutes answering questions only to be told you don’t qualify. LOL But when you do qualify, you can definitely earn some Swagbucks.

I generally use Swagbucks for web searches, and sometimes I’ll try the surveys when I have some down time. But you are right. It’s definitely not something you can earn a full time income with. I recommend Wealthy Affiliate for earning a full time income online.

  2. I’m not a big fan of most paid survey websites either, but at least Swagbucks doesn’t make promises of great wealth from their site. It sounds nuts doing all that work for a penny though. If it’s a way to make money doing something you do anyway then why not? Free money is free money. I liked your honest review of this company. You really did a great service to it.

    1. You are right, Jason.  This is not a way to earn a living online.  If that is what you’re looking for, the best place to learn to do that, in my opinion, is Wealthy Affiliate.  You can get started with two websites for free.

But if you’re going to be sitting around killing time waiting for a car wash, a doctor’s appointment, or in a jury room, why not kill some time taking a survey.  It won’t make you rich, but a little extra money won’t hurt.
