I have seen a lot of buzz online about Swagbucks. Most of the comments I have found are positive, so I decided to try it out myself. Here is what I found out.
Swagbucks is a reward program that pays you in reward points for completing various tasks. As you might expect, the reward points are called swagbucks, and the tasks include taking surveys, watching videos, shopping at various online stores, playing games and searching the web. Swagbucks are worth a penny each, and you can convert them into gift cards at various retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Target, or you can convert them into cash via PayPal or a VISA gift card.
Surveys are the most common way to earn swagbucks because they pay the most out of all the activities. They typically pay from 20 to 150 swagbuck per survey and as you would expect, the longer the survey, the more they pay. Each survey shows an estimate of the amount of time required, so you can decide if it’s worth it.
Pros and Cons
- No cost to sign up
- Easy to earn swagbucks
- Can start earning immediately
- Can earn swagbucks performing tasks you do anyway (like searching the web)
- Initial activities (signing up, adding “Swag Button,” changing default search engine) earn lost of bonus swagbucks
- Lots of choices for redeeming swagbucks
- Swagbucks only worth a penny each
- Surveys typically pay less than minimum wage
Who Is Swagbucks For?
Swagbucks is for anyone who has a computer and wants to easily make some extra money in their spare time or for doing tasks they normally do. However, you will not be able to earn a full time income using Swagbucks.
Tools and Training
The Swagbucks website is pretty intuitive and self-explanatory, so for most people, training probably isn’t necessary. If you do need some extra help, there are various tutorials available. For those who use Swagbucks through the website via computer, no downloads are necessary. For mobile users, you will need to download the app.
Support is available via an extensive help center and FAQ and, if you cannot find the answer to your question, via email.
Swagbucks is free to join, and there are no membership upgrades. Some of the methods to earn swagbucks do require spending money (shopping options), but there are plenty of free methods as well.
Overall, I think Swagbucks is a solid way to earn a little extra money. I am not a big fan of survey sites, but that is mainly because they usually promise way more than they deliver. Swagbucks doesn’t pay much per survey, but they don’t promise to either. Earnings are pretty commensurate with the amount of work and effort required.
My main problem with Swagbucks is that in some cases, the time required is not really worth the amount you can earn. But if you’re doing tasks you were going to do anyway, or if you’re just killing some idle time, you can knock out some of the tasks and earn some extra money.
