Wealthy Affiliate Review – Is it a Scam?

6

Several years ago, I was introduced to affiliate marketing through a training program called “My Online Income System,” and I did not have much success with it.  So I pretty much gave up on that until I came across Wealthy Affiliate.  I figured that since I could test drive the system for free, why not give it a try?  Here’s what I found.

Wealthy AffiliateBoot Camp

Overall Rating: five-stars

Price: $0 (Starter Membership) / $49 per month (Premium Membership)

Owners: Carson and Kyle

Website: www.WealthyAffiliate.com

Update: The Wealthy Affiliate 2017 Black Friday Deal is officially over.  Don’t worry if you missed it, though.  You can still take a free test drive, and the regular price of $49 is still a bargain when you consider everything Premium Membership includes.  And you will always get the first month at over a 60% discount if you upgrade to Premium Membership within a week of creating your FREE Starter Membership.  So check it out.

Introduction

The purpose of Wealthy Affiliate is to train you to be a successful affiliate marketer.  If you don’t know what affiliate marketing is, here is a really short synopsis.

  1. Set up a website.
  2. Promote products on your website
  3. Link to a website where those products are sold.
  4. If someone buys something after linking from your site, you earn a commission.

If you want some more detail about what affiliate marketing involves, you can read about it here.

In addition to training, at Wealthy Affiliate you also get:

  • A social network with almost a million members
  • A website builder
  • Website hosting
  • Free keyword tool
  • Lots of help from other members

When you first sign up for a free starter account, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of information on the site.  I know I was.  There are thousands of people, all with the same goal: to make money online and help each other do the same.

Now, the first thing you need to know is that Wealthy Affiliate is not a get rich quick scheme.  You will eventually start earning a steady income, but it will not happen overnight.  In fact, it may take a few months before you make your first dime.  And you will have to do a considerable amount of work to make it happen.  But face it, every business I know requires “sweat equity” at the beginning, and most require a considerable investment.  With Wealthy Affiliate, you can get your business started for $0 start-up cost!

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Extensive amount of information
  • Thousands of friendly helpful people
  • Free access
  • Easy-to-follow courses
  • Welcoming atmosphere
  • No spam whatsoever

Cons

  • Can be overwhelming at first

Who is Wealthy Affiliate For?

  • Beginners
  • Intermediate online business owners
  • Experts

I believe beginners will get the most benefit from Wealthy Affiliate, but several experts discovered that everything you get with a Premium Membership at Wealthy Affiliate would cost a lot more if purchased elsewhere, so they stick around and help many of the new members going through the training.  It’s a win-win situation.

Unfortunately, there are some location restrictions due to excessive hacking and fraud that occurs in certain countries.

Currently, the following countries are banned from joining Wealthy Affiliate as a FREE member:

  • Bangladesh
  • Egypt
  • India
  • Pakistan
  • Phillipines
  • Vietnam

People who are interested in joining from these countries may join by purchasing a Premium Membership.

Additionally, Wealthy Affiliate has unfortunately had to ban all memberships, both free and Premium, from the country of Nigeria due to excessive hacking, cheating and fraud.  It is an unfortunate decision and one that was not taken lightly.

If you are from Nigeria or any of the other above listed countries, Affilorama and Solo Build It are excellent choices for those looking to start an online business.  For everyone else, I think Wealthy Affiliate is the way you’ll want to go.

Tools and Training

Everything starts with the first course: Online Entrepreneur Certification – Getting Started (Level 1).  In this course you will learn how to:Getting Started

  • Choose a niche (market segment)
  • Build your own website
  • Get ideas for content to put on your website
  • Organize your website for maximum traffic
  • Continue adding content and improving your website
  • Make money online

During and after this training, you will have access to all the other members, including the site owners Kyle and Carson, ask questions, and even answer questions yourself.  Yes, even within a few days, I was able to help a few members with questions they had.

Later on, if you want to continue with more advanced training and have full access to the site, you can upgrade to a Premium Membership, which I discuss below, but you’re under no obligation to upgrade.  You can remain a starter member forever if you like.

Navigation through the site is very easy.  It is set up very much like a social network.  So if you are familiar with Facebook or Twitter, you will probably have no trouble finding your way around.  And if you do have trouble, just ask.  Unlike Twitter and Facebook (sometimes), everyone is always friendly and ready to help.

Support

We’ve all been in that situation: you need help, you contact someone, and one of two things happens:Frustrated Phone

  1. You send an email and have to wait several days for a reply.
  2. You call and have to navigate through 500 recorded messages, only to be put on hold for two hours.

All my experiences with support at Wealthy Affiliate have been pleasant.  If I need support with my website, they usually get back to me within minutes, not hours or days.  If you need to communicate directly with Kyle or Carson, you can send them a message, and they will get back to you.  It may just take a day or two… remember, there are almost a million members at Wealthy Affiliate, so Kyle and Carson get a lot of messages.  Somehow, they manage to get back to everyone, so that’s pretty cool.

    1. Thanks, Entrepre3ur! You experience sounds like mine. I was skeptical at first because of so many prior disappointments. But Wealthy Affiliate is the real deal.

  2. Hello It is good to now that wealthy affiliate is not a scam. their methods have been know to work and many people are joining wealthy affiliate every day and discovering how woderfuk it is to build a website and start your own online business. 1. Thanks for the comment, Norman. Yes you’re right that Wealthy Affiliate is a great resource. But I do want to urge everyone reading this to not take our word for it. If you are looking at starting an online business, you owe it to yourself to head over to Wealthy Affiliate and try it out with a FREE STARTER ACCOUNT. It is completely risk free, so leave your credit card in your wallet. You won’t need it.

  3. Hi Andy,
I have been a member @Wealthy Affiliate since August 2014. As far as I’m concerned, they are the #1 place to earn while you learn on the internet today. I just wished I would have found them years ago before I learned the hard way. I just thought I would throw in my 2cents. WA Rocks! And what about the weekly live training by Jay? Rocks Too!
    Sincerely,
    JohnnyA

    1. Johnny, I couldn’t agree with you more about Wealthy Affiliate. I forgot to mention the live training by Jay. What is so awesome about Jay’s training is that all of his training is available to replay if you can’t make the live seminars. It’s a huge treasure trove of information. Creating a FREE starter account is a no-brainer to me, and Premium Membership, once you look at everything you get, is also a pretty obvious choice. In fact, I would challenge every FREE member who joins Wealthy Affiliate to look at what you get with Premium Membership, and if you can find all of it for less money, by all means go for it. I don’t think you’ll be able to do it.

  4. Wow Andy,

Wealthy Affiliate looks so classic. All these years I have been looking for some fine opportunities out there to help me start my online business. I’m very glad you have opened my eyes to this great opportunity.

Without any delay, I want to start with Wealthy Affiliate now. But my question is, how long does Wealthy Affiliate FREE Starter membership last before you will have to pay and upgrade?

I will be happy to hear your reply

Thanks so much for sharing this useful information.

    1. Thanks for the comment, Stephen.

One of the things I hate about some products out there that let you try it for free is that they give you something and then take it away after a certain period of time. One of the things I love about Wealthy Affiliate is that you are never required to upgrade to a Premium Membership. Now, I personally hope everyone who joins eventually does upgrade because I think a Premium Membership at Wealthy Affiliate is one of the best deals out there, but you don’t have to, and Wealthy Affiliate will not cancel your FREE Starter Membership ever. If you decide to go it on your own after going through the introductory training, you can do that a remain a Starter Member forever. If you decide you want the more advanced training or to get all the other benefits of Premium Membership, you can upgrade at any time, but you will never be required to do so.

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you in your online business.

  5. Are there any hidden fee’s after joining? Do I have to pay for any advertisement?

    1. Teresa, there are no hidden fees with Wealthy Affiliate. Here is what you can expect to pay.

      Starter Membership – FREE
      Premium Membership – $49

In addition to these, if you choose to use your own domain (Premium Membership only), you will need to purchase it, which you can do through Wealthy Affiliate for about $10 – $15 per year, or you can do it through another service if you choose. Either way, the fees to maintain that domain name are pretty low.

Other fees you might want to consider, but are totally optional:

Autoresponder – only if you’re looking to build an email list. Aweber is a good one that’ll cost you about $19 per month, but you can look for others as well.
Pay per Click Advertising – This is a method taught in the Wealthy Affiliate Bootcamp, but you need to be careful with it since you can end up spending a substantial amount of money. I recommend you get a good amount of experience generating free traffic through the use of good keywords before you decide to delve into PPC, if you decide to do it at all. Many people experience a lot of success just through free traffic without doing PPC, so remember that it’s your business and the choice is up to you.
